How to add email addresses to safe senders list

Adding email addresses to a safe senders list (also called "whitelisting") helps ensure important emails don't get filtered to your spam or junk folder. Here's how to do it in the most common email clients:

Gmail

Gmail doesn't have a traditional safe senders list, but you can add the sender to your contacts. Open the email, click the sender's email address, and select "Add to Contacts." You can also mark emails as "Not Spam" if they land in your spam folder.

Outlook (Desktop)

On the Home tab, click "Junk" and select "Junk Email Options." Go to the "Safe Senders" tab, click "Add," type in the email address you want to whitelist, then click "OK" and "Apply".

Outlook 365 / Web

Click Settings, then Mail, then Junk email. Under "Safe senders and domains," select "+ Add safe sender," enter the email address, and click "Save".

Apple Mail (Mac)

Open the email, right-click the sender's email address, and choose "Add to Contacts". If an email is in your junk folder, move it to your inbox to train the filter.

Apple Mail (iPhone/iPad)

Open the message, tap the sender's email address, then tap "Create New Contact" to add it to your contacts list.

AOL Mail

Highlight the email address and click "add contact" in the drop-down menu.

Adding senders to your safe list helps reduce the likelihood of emails being flagged as spam and ensures you won't miss important messages. If emails continue going to spam, you may also need to check your email provider's settings or coordinate with your IT team.
